Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 July 2026

This policy explains how MERIMAKR LTD ("MERIMAKR", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit our website or get in touch with us. We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

MERIMAKR LTD is a boutique video production company registered in England and Wales. For the purposes of data protection law, we are the "data controller" for the personal data we hold about you. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us at mail@alexbalcombe.com.

Information we collect

We only collect what we need to respond to you and run our business. This may include:

  • Information you give us - such as your name, email address, phone number, company name and any details about your project when you contact us by our enquiry form, by email or by phone.
  • Information collected automatically - such as your IP address, browser and device type, and how you use our site, gathered through cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies" below).
  • Information from working together - any details you share with us over the course of a project, including billing and delivery information.

How we use your information, and our lawful basis

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your data. We rely on the following:

  • To respond to your enquiry and provide our services - on the basis of taking steps to enter into, or perform, a contract with you.
  • To run and improve our business and website - on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating a small company, understanding how our site is used, and keeping it secure.
  • To send you information you have asked for - on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To meet legal and accounting obligations - on the basis of compliance with our legal duties.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them to keep the site working and to understand how visitors use it. The cookies we use fall into these groups:

  • Essential cookies - needed for the site to function. These do not require consent.
  • Analytics cookies - help us see which pages are visited so we can improve the site. These are only set with your consent.
  • Embedded video cookies - our showreel and portfolio use third-party video players (such as Kinescope, Vimeo or YouTube) which may set their own cookies when a video loads or plays.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and refuse non-essential cookies without affecting the core functionality of the site. For more detail on managing cookies, see aboutcookies.org.uk.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with trusted service providers who help us operate - for example, our website host, email provider and analytics tools - who are only permitted to use it on our instructions. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so, or to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights.

International transfers

Some of the providers we use may store data outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where that happens, we take steps to ensure your data is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent contractual protections.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or to meet legal, accounting or tax requirements. Enquiries that do not lead to a project are deleted once they are no longer relevant.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate; ask us to erase it; restrict or object to how we use it; request portability of the data you provided; and withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these rights, please email mail@alexbalcombe.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse or unauthorised access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take care to safeguard the information you share with us.

Children

Our website and services are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
